Jacques Peretto French , 1879-1972

Jacques Peretto was a French painter whose work is particularly associated with the landscapes of the Dauphiné and the French Alps. Born in 1879, he worked primarily in oil, painting the mountains, rivers and countryside around Grenoble and the surrounding region.

Peretto was drawn to the changing seasons and varied character of the Alpine landscape. His subjects include the Belledonne mountain range, the Drac valley, snow-covered countryside and riverside views, as well as scenes around towns and villages in the Dauphiné. His paintings are characterised by a naturalistic approach to landscape, with particular attention to atmosphere, light and seasonal effects.

Among his recorded works are La chaîne de Belledonne, Paysage de campagne en Dauphiné, Paysage enneigé and Les rives du Drac à Rondeau. His paintings continue to appear on the French art market, particularly his landscapes of the Alpine region.

Peretto died in 1937.
