Helge Andersson Swedish, 1913-1988

Helge Sigvard Andersson was a Swedish painter, born in Askum, Bohuslän, in 1913. He studied at Valand in Gothenburg from 1932 to 1936, before undertaking study trips to England and across southern Europe, as well as further travels in Asia and Africa.

Andersson worked principally in oil and was known for his portraits, figure compositions, still lifes and landscapes, particularly scenes of the Bohuslän coast. His work reflects his close connection with the Swedish west coast, with coastal landscapes and maritime subjects forming an important part of his output.

Andersson also undertook larger decorative commissions, including murals in Lysekil depicting aspects of the town's industrial, fishing and seaside history. His work is represented in the collections of Malmö Museum and Borås Museum.

He remained closely associated with the Lysekil area and died there in 1988.
