Félix Raoul Eteve French , 1902-1967

Félix Raoul Etève was a French painter, born in Montmorillon in 1902. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and became known principally for his tranquil landscapes, particularly views of rivers, villages and historic towns throughout France.

Etève was especially drawn to the country's waterways, from the Seine around Paris to the Vézère, the Yonne and the Tarn in the south. His paintings often depict riverside villages, old bridges, mills and buildings, rendered in a softly impressionistic style with broad, expressive brushwork and a gentle treatment of light.

He exhibited in galleries in Paris and was a member of the Société des Artistes Français, exhibiting at its annual Salon. In 1935 he was awarded the Prix Raigecourt-Goyan. His work is now found on the French and international art market, with landscapes of the French countryside forming the principal part of his known oeuvre.

Etève died in Auxerre in 1967.
