Paul Jean Hugues  was a French painter and pastellist known for his refined depictions of domestic interiors. He studied in Paris under the academic painters Fernand Cormon and Henri Royer, where he developed a strong foundation in drawing and composition.

Hugues specialised in painting elegant interior scenes, often featuring period furniture, decorative objects, and richly furnished rooms inspired by 18th- and 19th-century French décor. His work focuses on atmosphere and light, with careful attention to the arrangement of objects within intimate spaces.

He exhibited regularly in Paris, notably at the Salon des Artistes Français, becoming a member in 1923 and later exhibiting hors-concours, and he also showed work at the Salon des Tuileries. Working in oil, watercolour and pastel, his paintings are today found mainly in private collections and are appreciated for their craftsmanship and evocative portrayal of French interiors.
